In the late 1940’s, a group of Farm Bureau leaders in Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, and Texas shared a vision for better member service and lower insurance rates. The idea was to start their own auto insurance company. The Farm Bureau in each of these states would share equally in the ownership of a stock company. On September 30, 1947, Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company (SFBCIC) began business in Jackson, Mississippi. Louisiana Farm Bureau joined the group in 1950, followed by South Carolina in 1952 and Colorado in 2005.

Southern Farm Bureau Casualty was an immediate success. During the next 77 years, the company has grown stronger, expanded its product lines, broadened its geographical markets, and emerged as one of the nation’s leading P & C companies. Today, Southern Farm Bureau Casualty is in the top 10% of its class with an A.M. Best A+ Superior rating.

From raw beginnings to its current stature in the insurance industry, Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company has required hard work from its leaders, employees, and independent agents. Agents in the SFBCIC region serve their members with multi-line insurance products through a collaborative effort with sister Farm Bureau Insurance Companies. Through the years, continued training, the latest equipment, and innovative techniques have enabled the company to remain competitive while offering financial security and quality service to their policyholders.

In the early 1960’s, Farm Bureau Tech was created as a school for insurance professionals with an emphasis on claims. The present curriculum has diversified to include computer, management, underwriting, and retirement classes.

In the early 1990’s, regional claims service centers and branch offices opened in several states to enhance the service to members. The centers have spread throughout the region and offer on-the-spot processing for a wide range of claims as well as drive through service for most automobile claims.

To further strengthen their policyholder services, in 2001 Southern Farm Bureau Casualty established a regional Customer Service Center to network with each of the state operations. At present, the center is providing the best and most efficient turnaround service possible for claims.  Plans are underway to expand the 24 hour, seven day a week service with a variety of member benefits.

The Farm Bureau leaders who organized Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company have watched it grow far beyond their expectations. Check out SFBCIC financial statistics and industry ratings and see why the company can boast. SFBCIC is a company of people with pride in the success achieved by thousands of dedicated professionals committed to policyholder service. That was the clear and simple goal of its founders, and it has been upheld for the last half century. Yet most importantly, it’s a goal that is not only stronger than ever today, but is its cornerstone for the 21st century.
